“Tum pagal ho kya?”

What my Urdu-speaking friends call me when I try to use word number three from this list in a sentence.

“Kya haal hai, yaar?”

My go-to word for everyone from my barber to my landlord. Very flexible definition of 'friend'.

“Accha, theek hai, chalte hain.”

Can mean 'good', 'okay', 'I see', or 'oh really?' depending entirely on tone — so I just say it a lot and hope.

“Shukriya bhai, bohot maza aaya.”

The one word I say with total confidence, mostly because getting it wrong would be rude.
